Getting to Tenerife

La Gomera is mainly accessible from Tenerife. Here are the most common ways to reach this unspoilt island:

By cab

The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs around €30. It’s a quick and convenient option if you have luggage or a late flight.

By bus

An economical alternative at €3.20. However, the bus stop at Los Cristianos is about a 20-minute walk from the port.

    Ferry crossing to La Gomera

    Two companies operate crossings between Los Cristianos (Tenerife) and San Sebastián de La Gomera:

    • Fare: Approximately €35 per person one-way.
    • Practical tip:
      It’s best not to book your ferry ticket in advance, in case you run into flight delays, traffic jams or difficulties finding a cab.

    Direct flights to La Gomera

    Another option for getting to La Gomera is to take a short flight to La Gomera airport (GMZ). Here are the details:

    • Departure: Direct flights are available from :
      • Tenerife North (TFN)
      • Gran Canaria (LPA)
    • Fare: Tickets cost around €80 per trip.
    • Timetable: Flights are infrequent, so it’s important to check in advance on the Binter website.
    • On arrival: From La Gomera airport, cabs and buses take you to the island’s main towns, such as San Sebastián and Valle Gran Rey.

    Car transport between Tenerife and La Gomera

    Not all car rental companies in Tenerife offer transport to La Gomera.

    • Recommended option: The Cicar allows vehicles to be transported on the ferry. However, you will need to allow for an additional cost on the ferry, equivalent to one additional person, to take the car on board.
    • Alternative: If you’d prefer to avoid car transport, it’s often easier to rent a car directly in La Gomera.

    Buses in La Gomera

    La Gomera’s bus network (guaguas) comprises 8 routes connecting the main towns and villages. Here’s what you need to know to use them efficiently:

    • Timetables: The timetables show only departures from the main station of each line. To find out the time at other stops:
      • Ask the villagers, who are often familiar with the passages, or
      • Estimate the arrival time by calculating the driving time from the departure station.
    • Buses are not referenced on Google Maps.
    • Fare and duration: Tickets can be purchased from the driver on the bus. For example, a trip between San Sebastián and Valle Gran Rey costs €5 and takes between 1h30 and 2h.
